Road Records RIP

Just saw this link on Twitter in relation to Road Records. Really sad to see that they will be closing their doors for good on the 24th of July.

When they first went to close a while back, it was amazing to see the reaction from the Irish music community, but alas, it wasn’t enough.

Road were some of first supporters back in 2007 when they agreed to stock our first EP, Rubicon, and we’ll always be grateful for that.

Best of luck guys in whatever you move onto next.

We’re still here…

Hey there,

My apologies for the lack of fresh news from the Kybosh camp. It’s been pretty busy of late between writing for the new album and with people involved on other projects.

Rob has been playing bass with a band called Ponyclub and that’s taken up a good bit of time, and others have had various projects going on.

We do plan to continue writing for this album…it’s what we’ve always wanted to do, it just may take a little bit of time! But we promise you, it’ll be worth the wait.

In the meantime, to bridge the gap, we’ve uploaded a free Live EP, produced by Venntertainment.com. This was recorded at the Futurism Club night which is run monthly in Eamon Doran’s, Temple Bar, Dublin. It features songs from the EP and the mini-album and a new cover which we think you’ll love…

Enjoy and Share it!

The Dark Knight: The Review!

Well, The Dark Knight was wonderful. I really, really enjoyed it, and would love to see it again in order to fully absorb the movie in all its glory.
Heath Ledger was nothing short of brilliant, and the movie itself was epic. Not just a wonderful comic book universe story, but also the fantastic crime thriller (in the vein of Heat, Godfather II etc) that other reviews are talking about.
Special mention goes to Gary Oldman. His depiction of Gordon is so subtle, understated, yet so so important to the core of the movie and the underlying theme of un-corruptable heroes.
It wasn’t flawless. It starts slowly, and some of the first few conversations are a little lacking. Also, fans of Two-Face will be a bit upset, as, while he is very good, his origins are all wrong and I think it goes against him. Aaron Eckhart is good, but not as flawless as Heath Ledger. Eckhart is too much of a ‘White Knight’ and changes all too quickly. I feel that Nolan has ignored the multiple personality disorder back story that gives Two Face his menace.
But hey, I do feel I’m knit-picking here. This is Nolan’s story and Batman Universe and he obviously felt that this version of Harvey ‘Two-Face’ is far more credible, which it possibly is. I’ll let you know after my second viewing!
Four and a half out of five for being by far the best Batman and therefore comic book movie ever made, and for the summer’s stand out movie by a mile, and possibly the years best movie.
I think Oscar nominations are justified for Heath Ledger, the script, the cinematography and the action/effects.

After the movie we privileged ones were given special edition lenticular (holographic) posters which were kick ass, as we were the first to see the movie on general release here! The soundtrack was also immense , but makes so much more sense when attached to the movie.
I suppose the main question now is, will there be a follow up, and can they better this movie?
Who do you think the baddies will be? My bet is, a return for The Penguin (ala Philip Seymour Hoffman) and Catwoman (ala Emily Blunt). We shall have to see!
4 and a half out of 5

The Dark Knight.

Well, in advance of the premiere of The Dark Knight (Which myself, The D and my friend Dave are going to see tomorrow night, Wednesday, Wahoo!)

There’s lots of interesting stuff on Empire, who have certainly helped with hyping this machine into overdrive.

Check this fortnight lead-up out: http://www.empireonline.com/darkknight/

In other news, the movie has broken all sorts of records over in the states. Looks like it is gonna be absolutely huge. It’s already the biggest opening movie of all time…please God let it beat Titanic to the Overall accolade!

And In other geek news, Star Trek, Watchmen, The Spirit and Terminator: Salvation have all upped the ante ahead of another massive year for movies in 2009.

We shall certainly be posting our thoughts on what has certainly been the longest wait for a movie I’ve ever experienced.

The weird and wonderful world of soundtracks.

It’s funny how my musical taste and interests change around so drastically. Right now, all I have been listening to are soundtracks. Soundtracks are wonderful things. Now I’m talking about proper scores here. Not collections of already popular songs thrown together to please the masses. I’m talking about Hans Zimmer, Danny Elfman, Shirley Walker, Thomas Newman and James Newton Howard.

My favourite soundtracks are currently as follows:

1. Shirley Walker – Batman: The Mask of the Phantasm OST

2. Danny Elfman – Beetlejuice

3. Thomas Newman – Wall-E

4. Hans Zimmer and James Newton Howard – Batman Begins OST (Though The Dark Knight will probably eclipse this)

5. Nick Cave and Warren Ellis – The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford

I would love to write a soundtrack someday. There is something so special and final about a special film with a spectacular soundtrack.

I wonder do others feel the same? Give us your thoughts…In fact Let’s see what other people’s top 5 would be? Gonna tag a few blogs and people can pass it on!

Roethke.

Saw The Happening with Rob The Lobster the other day, and I really liked it. But that’s unimportant… what matters is I’ve fallen in love with Zooey Deschanel. Not only is she beautiful and hilarious (and a perfect Trillian in The Hitchhiker’s Guide), but she can sing! And how:

That’s Smokey Robinson’s “You Really Got a Hold on Me” with WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY more soul.

Also saw The Incredible Norton with my little sis. Notsomuch, but a half-decent super-Edward flick. He was surprisingly Banner.

In other news, heard a Bass sound Rob’s created for one of the songs… and the drums for most of them. Amazing. Can’t wait to get in the rec room and lay down guitar and vox.

The D, over and out.

Here comes the vegetable man.
