Mish Mash
Well,
The first wave of The Triumphant Return of The Kybosh is now complete, and was fairly successful too.
We had a lovely build up to the Crawdaddy gig with some great press and a nice little warm up gig in Thomas Read’s on Dame St on Sun.
Last night started with the quite excellent The Spook of the Thirteenth Lock. Allen did a solo set and played some really beautiful stuff. I loved the solo versions of The Hare and In Country Dark. Best of luck to him at The Electric Picnic, where he has the unenviable task of playing at the same time as My Bloody Valentine!
The Funeral Suits were up next and the played an unrelenting, blistering set. Pigs, and Black Lemonade were some of my favourites and I would definitely suggest that you check them out at The Electric Picnic on Friday in The Bernard Shaw Tent.
Next, we made our way to the stage at around 10. By that stage there was quite a crowd and we kicked off the set with our new song, ‘Through Me’. Next was ‘Descent’ which has been recieving some very positive comments this week at the two gigs. We then moved on ‘A Deep Place’ which was played quite a bit last year, and now sports a few changes. ‘People Are Strange’ by The Doors’ was next. This was played in a very up beat and almost Caberet manner…Donal’s voice was really warming up at this stage. We then played ‘Until We Are Lost’ followed by ‘The Flood’. Both songs received a good few plays last year and The Flood in particular was really tight. The gamble of the night was our next song. We used to play Nelly Furtado’s ‘Maneater’ as our cover last year, and this was replaced by Rhianna’s ‘Please Don’t Stop The Music’. Brian then blasted into the opening riff of ‘Rubicon’ and we played a fantastic version of last years single, before taking things down a notch with Donal’s solo piece ‘Lemonwater’. The gig finshed up with ‘Out of the shadows, into the sun’ and ‘Beatrice’.
Thanks to everybody who made it out last night, and contributed to a pretty successful return for The Kybosh! Watch this space for upcoming news regarding our new mini-album…
